The ceremony for the Kansas Press Association awards was this weekend. I didn't attend the schmoozefest in Topeka, but one of my
stories won first place in the "youth" category. It's no Pulitzer, but at least I can call myself an award-winning journalist.

- I'm a New England native transplanted to the Great Plains. In the '90s, I studied English at a liberal-arts school in western Massachusetts. After working in magazines for a few years, I earned a master's degree in journalism from a university in central New York (don't call it upstate -- the locals will get mad). I've also lived in Boston and southern Pennsylvania. I moved to Kansas in 2005.
